Note from Chris Owens, Class VP and Reunion Chair:
The
official hotel for our 25th reunion is now accepting reservations. The
class has reserved a group block 22-27 October 2014 with a two night
minimum during that period, and we are planning on a Friday night social
in the same hotel. Based on informal feedback after the last reunion
the hotel committee decided to try a change in venue. The 25th reunion
hotel is at the Westin Annapolis near the intersection of West Street
and Taylor Avenue.
The
Westin offers some advantages over the previous hotel that made it
worth a try. The hotel is newer and has over 300 rooms, there is plenty
of parking available, and the stadium is within easy walking distance on
game day. The group block contract has some provisions that are a
little more flexible than the previous hotel, and the rate is actually
lower than the block rate in 2009. There is a slight downside that the
Westin is a little farther from the yard and the water front downtown
area but that can be overcome by using one of the complimentary shuttles
or taking a short cab ride.
The
group block is only 100 rooms so if think that you may want a room you
should book quickly. Once the block is full it is likely that more rooms
will be available but not at the discounted rate. It is also possible
that some classmates may be able to find a more favorable rate through a
corporate discount or award redemption – if you do get a room outside
the block give me ctowens89@burleymd.com a heads up so we can get credit
for the room night. Please read the cancellation policy carefully.
For
most, the room block is the way to go. Please use the following link,
not the regular reservation web page so that you get the right rate and
we get credit for the stay. Once again if you get a room out of the
block, or you are not sure, just contact Chris so he can work with the
hotel event coordinator to get credit. As of right now we are not
planning on a second, overflow hotel but we can revisit a few months
out.
